At its simplest that may be only an experienced extra manager to stand in for a while to allow time to find or train a new manager, or to give the Logistics Director some thinking time. More usually, we provide specialist input to an internal change team.

In distribution, Burman has experience of designing successful franchise arrangements for distribution outlets. We assist principals to prepare RFQ's and we analyse bids from potential third party contractors. We help to negotiate arrangements to maximise customer service at affordable cost. We provide the analysis on which proposed production and distribution systems can be designed. We provide data, skills and analysis in designing warehouse systems.

In the production field, familiarity with many options for production control enables us to assist in selecting the best option and making it work. Plant layout, rapid changeovers and effective quality control processes are key. In construction, effective logistics is the difference between profit and loss. Site management, material supply, safety and meeting completion dates all depend upon logistics. In administrative, financial and design services, process mapping, benchmarking, measuring service levels, improve the logistics of the service.

Consultancy sometimes becomes coaching, on-going support for a manager – perhaps two or three days in each month for critical periods.
